Skinny Fat on Yelp

I’ve been neglecting my new-found past-time activity of blogging on chicken nugget toe because I have found another distraction: YELP! If you are on Yelp, add me. Be my virtual friend. I’m not a huge foodie and I think that’s because all food is pretty much delicious to me unless it’s awful. Which means it’s probably really horrendous. I blame this on my inability to distinguish smells all that well. Basil on the other hand has the nose of a bloodhound. He can tell if someone has had coffee in the morning by the scent of their urine. And he likes to tease and ask me if I’ve had a stressful day after sniffing my head. So romantic I know.

Sunset Celebration Weekend

Saturday night I slept 16 hours recovering from our afternoon at the fabulous extravaganza that is the annual Sunset Magazine’s Celebration Weekend Event at their headquarters in Menlo Park. Sunset Magazine is a favorite of ours “showcasing the region’s unique lifestyle and noteworthy destinations, inspiring people to achieve the dream of living in the West.” Bottom line is that they feature places and adventures that we can actually see ourselves taking without breaking the bank!

Our Garden

Sitting at the dining room table looking out onto our little garden made me pretty happy today so I felt like sharing. I guess it’s really Basil’s garden – I’ve got a bit of a black thumb and my only contribution is to pick off the lemons or eat a blueberry or two.

18 Dec 2010

Christmas lights are up, a recipe has been picked out for this year’s 2nd Annual Holiday Bake-Off, Basil’s birthday celebrations have been planned out, I’m slowly chipping away at my end-of-the year to-do list! Still overwhelmed but overall very grateful for the many blessings of 2010 and looking forward to what 2011 holds.

How to Fix a Dislocated Shoulder

Last week on a Wednesday, well into my daily morning ritual of hitting the snooze button and lounging a bit more in bed, I finally decide to get up and start my day. But not until after sneaking in one final morning stretch to get the sleep kinks out of my body. I reach up and out and.. out pops my shoulder from the socket! Wow, I’m out of shape. The sucker just slips out over the cartilage and there I am, trapped in bed with my arm hanging out of the socket. Hmmm… what a conundrum.

Endless Shrimp

Last night Basil and I realized we had a free and quiet Friday night tonight… no plans, no obligations, no work to catch up on… *?blink?* …. What the heck should we do? The soon-to-be-found, somewhat-obvious answer of course was: what else but Endless Shrimp at Red Lobster!? Now, this may not sound that exciting to you, but whenever that commercial comes on TV announcing this fine limited-time offer, Basil yells out, “ooooh yeah!!” and I know that our next date night is going to be about filling our faces with endless rounds of 4-5 different preparations of our little shellfish friends.

One major reason for me to blog is to send something over to my parents to read while they are in China. I’m pretty sure they don’t use rss feeds and it seems the best way to get them to this site is to send them periodic reminder emails that this blog has been updated.

In response to the latest email my mom writes:

Why I’m getting a fancy new camera

Basil is a loyal Nikon user, so chances are I’ll be getting a Nikon so I can poach all his lenses. For those in the area, we’re going to be planning a little photography field trip somewhere pretty in the Bay. Ping if interested in joining!

Mad Men – My New Obsession

The good news is that I’m watching less reality tv these days. The less good news is that this doesn’t necessarily mean a decrease in my tv consumption. My latest obsession is Mad Men – made even better because the first 2 seasons are available On Demand!

Flying Southwest

I just flew Southwest this weekend back from Seattle, and the crew for Flight 887 (departing SeaTac at 6:35 p.m.) was a class act. Song and Dance, the whole 9 yards.
